Mr. Jacobson is a Senior Vice President, Actuary and Senior Consultant in Segal’s New York office with over 35 years of experience advising clients on the design and financial management of their benefit plans covering both active employees and retirees. He is the Benefits Team Leader of Segal’s higher education consulting practice and consults to many of Sibson’s higher education clients on health and wellness program strategy, design, pricing and cost-sharing structure. He also serves as liaison between clients and their vendors, managing carrier negotiations, conducting competitive biddings and analyzing renewals and settlements.

Mr. Jacobson leads Segal client teams focused on:

  • Determining total compensation competitiveness, salary benchmarking and benefits benchmarking
  • Assessing workforce attitudes and preferences regarding pay, benefits and paid leave arrangements
  • Reviewing and redesigning retiree health programs
  • Selecting employee benefit plan service organizations
  • Developing consensus among various stakeholder groups having different points of view
  • Expanding collaborative efforts to identify human resource functional improvement opportunities
  • Assisting with total rewards communications incorporating applied behavioral economics

Mr. Jacobson graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a BS in Mathematics and an MS and Fellowship in Operations Research. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Mr. Jacobson frequently speaks at local, regional and national industry events and conferences on a variety of topics including building successful and innovative voluntary separation incentive programs, improving healthy campus competencies with behavioral economic techniques and utilizing liberating structures as a road to more effective team interactions. Most recently, he has spoken at the CUPA-HR Pennsylvania, CUPA-HR Kentucky, CUPA-HR National, NACUBO and EACUBO conferences.
