With open enrollment approaching for many employers, it’s important that employees understand their employer’s offerings and how to elect the coverage that will best meet their needs. Open enrollment may be their only opportunity to make a choice, unless they experience a life event that allows them to make benefit changes. Prior to open enrollment, there are questions employees should ask themselves and their family members to assess what their needs will be in the next year so that they are confident in selecting a plan option. For example: how much will they and their family members spend on health care next year? Are their medical expenses generally limited to preventive care? And, are they high users of prescription drugs?
Often, good communications comes down to educating your employees on the right questions to ask. What media do your employees respond to the most when it comes to benefits enrollment information? (Web, video, print, email?)
