I was talking with a colleague about smartphones the other day. He remarked that because these amazing devices do so many things, simply calling them “phones” seems as inaccurate as saying, “Excuse me while I listen to the music player on my calculator.” As our smartphones’ capabilities have grown, we’ve increasingly incorporated them into every aspect of our daily lives. In the world of employee benefits, many organizations have created mobile versions of their human resources websites, while others have developed apps that allow employees to tackle benefits-related tasks right from their phones. It’s a win-win situation as plan administrators field fewer direct requests and employees gain the convenience of 24/7 access.
