Multiemployer Plans and the Excise Tax on High-Cost Plans

Starting in 2018 the Affordable Care Act will impose a 40% excise tax on health plans when the total cost of coverage under the plan exceeds certain thresholds. For multiemployer plans, the base threshold for 2018 is $27,500, with the potential for an upward adjustment in certain situations. In this webinar we will explore:

  • How the cost of coverage may be calculated
  • When plans may be able to use the higher threshold of $30,950
  • Why it is critical for plan sponsors to determine now when the plan is likely to exceed the threshold
  • Potential strategies to avoid the tax that no plan sponsor wants to pay
