Mr. Johnson is a Vice President and Senior Consultant in Segal’s Washington, DC office with over 30 years of healthcare and human resources experience. He helps clients manage a range of health and retirement benefits programs and broader human resources initiatives. Mr. Johnson has particular expertise in evidence-based workplace wellness programs, value-based healthcare purchasing strategies and applying behavioral economics principles to key human resources challenges.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Johnson held senior consulting positions at Aon Hewitt and a regional benefits consulting firm. He previously served as Director of Managed Care Contracting for the Johns Hopkins Health System. He began his career as a health benefits consultant at Mercer. Throughout his career, his clients have included state and local governments, colleges and universities, hospitals and health systems, multiemployer plans, corporations and nonprofits.

Mr. Johnson received a BS in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA with a concentration in Health Care Management from Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Johnson currently serves on two key subcommittees for the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission and has served as a board member of the Mid-Atlantic Business Group on Health. He has been a national Fit-Friendly Workplace Reviewer for the American Heart Association and participates actively in the Society for Human Resources Management, the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Mr. Johnson is a past President of the Worldwide Employee Benefits Network’s (WEB) Baltimore chapter. He also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Towson University in Maryland.

Mr. Johnson has published multiple articles in BNA’s Pension & Benefits Daily on such topics as “Strategies for Building a Healthier Workforce” and “Considerations for Choosing Stop-Loss Coverage.” He has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report, the Washington Business Journal, the Baltimore Business Journal, Employee Benefits News, SmartCEO and the Capital Gazette.
