The Segal Group is pleased to announce that Joseph A. LoCicero, Chairman of The Segal Group and former President and CEO, has received the 18th Annual John L. Lewis Award from the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP). The award, presented on September 25 at the NCCMP Annual Conference in Hollywood, FL, recognized Mr. LoCicero’ s achievements and lifetime contributions to the multiemployer community.
Mr. LoCicero is the third Segal employee to receive the award. In 2003, it was presented to founder and chairman emeritus Martin E. Segal (1916-2012) and in 2012 to retired senior vice president and director of research Judith F. Mazo.
In receiving the award, Mr. LoCicero said:
Ten years ago, during our Nation’s fiscal crisis, banks were considered “too big to fail.” Millions of hardworking and retired men and women rely on their multiemployer lifetime pensions so that they can retire with dignity, which makes the multiemployer system “too important to fail.” The recommendations of the Joint Select Committee on the Solvency of Multiemployer Pension Plans, which are due by November 30, must take that into account.”
The John L. Lewis Award was created to recognize those whose achievements and contributions to the multiemployer community most embody the values of dedication, creativity and leadership in ensuring the health and retirement income security of millions of American workers and their beneficiaries, as well as the security and livelihood of the job-creating employees of America. The award was named for the American leader of organized labor who served as president of the United Mine Workers of America from 1920 to 1960.
Mr. LoCicero, a recognized expert on multiemployer pension issues, is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary and a member of the Bar of the State of New York. He is also currently a member of the NCCMP’s Working Committee.
