Joseph A. LoCicero, President & CEO of The Segal Company, has announced that Sibson Consulting, the firm’s HR consulting division, has agreed to a strategic alliance with Morneau Sobeco, a leader in employee benefits administration outsourcing solutions. The firms will collaborate on offering benefits administration outsourcing services to Sibson clients, and employee benefits and HR consulting services to Morneau Sobeco clients in the U.S.

Cathie G. Eitelberg, Senior Vice President and National Director of The Segal Company’s Public Sector Market, has announced that Kevin J. Carrington joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as Vice President and Senior Consultant. Mr. Carrington is leading Segal’s Federal Practice and is based in the Company’s Washington DC office, as well as working with public sector entities in the East Region.

Joseph A. LoCicero, President and CEO of The Segal Company, has announced that Margery Sinder Friedman was named General Counsel effective May 1. Ms. Friedman joined Segal in January. Before that, she spent nearly 30 years as an attorney working with pension and health plans in private practice at a major Washington, DC law firm.

Retiree health voluntary employees’ beneficiary associations (VEBAs) have been in the news lately as one way to cover retiree health care. These VEBAs basically are trusts established to provide retiree health benefits to current and/or future retirees and have generally been established as part of collective bargaining. The trusts are administered by a board of trustees or an administrative board and may have company, union and/or retiree participation in a board.

Stuart Wohl, senior vice president at The Segal Company and retiree health care practice leader, points out some of the things that Retiree Health VEBAs can and cannot do in recent commentary.

The Government Accountability Office recently released a Report to the Committee on Finance of the U.S. Senate: State and Local Government Retiree Benefits – Current Status of Benefit Structure, Protections, and Fiscal Outlook for Funding Future Costs. Cathie G. Eitelberg, Senior Vice President and Public Sector Market Director for The Segal Company noted that as part of the study, Segal consultants were interviewed several times by the GAO as experts on public sector benefits, and Segal's Public Sector Medicare Part D survey is listed as a resource document in the study.

The Segal Company is pleased to announce that Kathleen Riley, Senior Vice President and Actuary, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Actuaries for a three-year term. Ms. Riley, who has more than 25 years experience with Segal, works out of the Boston office with a wide variety of retirement plan clients. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary.
