The Segal Company Announces Nine Executive Promotions

NEW YORK (7/8/09) - Joseph A. LoCicero, President and CEO of The Segal Company, has announced the promotion of nine executives, two Senior Vice Presidents and seven Vice Presidents:
Randolph B. Carter to Senior Vice President. Mr. Carter joined The Segal Company's National Communications practice in New York as a Consultant in 2001, and became Vice President in 2002. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the employee benefit communications field. Mr. Carter has worked with many clients to develop employee benefit and human resources communications materials and has been the CRM for multiple award-winning communications projects. In addition to writing and producing benefit communications programs, he also coordinates and serves as executive producer of Segal's film and video productions. Mr. Carter is a graduate of Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
Howard Goldsmith to Senior Vice President. Mr. Goldsmith joined The Segal Company's Defined Contribution Practice in New York as an Administrator in 1987. He became a Consultant in 1990 and a Vice President in 1998. Mr. Goldsmith has more than 20 years of experience in the benefits consulting industry and has managed consulting relationships for many of the firm's health, retirement, compensation, and human resource clients. In his current role as Public Sector Business Leader, he is responsible for all aspects of client service and delivery for public sector clients in the New York region. Mr. Goldsmith holds both an MBA in Finance and a BS in Business Economics from Rutgers University. He holds insurance licenses for Life, Accident and Health Benefit consulting.
Susan L. Boyle, FSA, MAAA, EA to Vice President & Assistant Actuary. Ms. Boyle joined The Segal Company's New York Actuarial Department in 2000. She has nearly a decade of experience providing actuarial services to some of the firm's largest Taft-Hartley clients, representing a wide variety of industries. Ms. Boyle received a BA and an MA, both in Mathematics, from St. John's University. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary.
Jeanette R. Cooper, FSA, FCA, MAAA, EA to Vice President & Actuary. Ms. Cooper joined The Segal Company's East Region Retirement practice in Atlanta in 2006 as a Consulting Actuary. She has more than 20 years of experience as a pension actuary and retirement consultant. Ms. Cooper works closely with defined benefit retirement plan clients directing and reviewing the preparation of actuarial valuations as well as consulting on funding issues and plan design and serves as primary technical specialist on many aspects of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA ‘06). She graduated with a BS in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ms. Cooper is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary.
Claire F. Crawford to Vice President & Senior Consultant. Ms. Crawford joined The Segal Company's National Communications Practice in New York in 2002 and was promoted to Senior Consultant in 2007. Ms. Crawford has more than 25 years of communications experience in all areas of corporate communications including HR, benefits and organizational communications strategy development and implementation. She is a graduate of the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York and holds a certificate in Marketing Management from New York University.
Frederick C. Herberich to Vice President & Benefits Consultant. Mr. Herberich joined The Segal Company's San Francisco office as a Benefits Consultant in 2002. He currently consults to some of the firm's largest multiemployer pension and group health plan clients in California and the Northwest as well as to several statewide public sector group health plans for public safety officers in California. Before joining Segal, Mr. Herberich gained more than 10 years of experience as a sales consultant and business strategy specialist with a national life, health and disability insurance carrier and in the technology sector. He received a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
Laura L. Mitchell, MAAA, EA to Vice President & Associate Actuary. Ms. Mitchell joined The Segal Company's West Region Retirement Practice in Los Angeles in 2007. Her responsibilities include reviewing valuations and benefit studies, consulting to various multiemployer clients, and assisting in managing and mentoring staff. Ms. Mitchell received a BS in Mathematics and Applied Science from UCLA. She is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary.
Jennifer K. Schuster to VP & Senior Consultant. Ms. Schuster joined The Segal Company's San Francisco office in 2003 as a Communications Consultant for the West Region. She has nearly 20 years of experience in benefits communications, performance management and reward communications, employee recruitment and orientation, and crisis communications. Ms. Schuster is currently responsible for building and maintaining key communications client relationships and supporting business development efforts on both a national and regional level. She received a BA in Economics with a minor in English from the University of California, Davis.
Susan R. Thompson to VP & East Region Compliance Practice Coordinator and CrosscheckSM Manager. Ms. Thompson joined The Segal Company's Compliance Practice in Atlanta in 1981. She has served in many compliance management roles in her career with Segal including Compliance Manager and manager of CrosscheckSM, Segal's compliance review service. Ms. Thompson is currently Regional Compliance Practice Coordinator for the East Region and a member of the East Management Team. She is particularly experienced in reviewing plan procedures and preparing administrative manuals and training personnel in plan administration. In addition, Ms. Thompson is a member of Segal's Compliance Leadership Group, which meets regularly to set policy and standards for Segal's Compliance Practice. She is a graduate of The State University of New York at Buffalo and from the Institute for Paralegal Training in Philadelphia with a certificate in Employee Benefits Training.
